E.A. Belonovskaya, A.B. Kachalin, L.M. Kitaev: The Experience of GIS-Technologies Use in the Investigations of the Spatial Statistical Fields of Vegetation and Environmental Parameters and Their Interaction CSIT 2000 : 256-263
An attempt to solve one of the fundamental ecological problem - correlation between the plant communities spatial heterogeneity and environmental - was done. As an example, a specialized GIS was created for two key-areas of the high-mountain regions of the Great Caucasus. Owing to GIS-technologies the great volume of information about various natural components was grouped in compact and available form and then visually showed on maps. The correlation among them was calculated by operation with this software.
