Abstract

This study aimed to quantify the complex dynamics of heart using modern digital data processing methods. Heart rate during 10-min segments was analyzed in 25 healthy subjects and 17 patients with bronchial asthma (BA) using specially developed hardware and software complex "Respicard 1.1" based on IBM PC. Mean interbeat interval and standard deviation were significantly lower in patients with bronchial asthma. Fractal exponent a of interbeat time series was not differed in controls and ill subjects. Results indicate that the heart rate regulation is operating at a reduced variability level in patients with bronchial asthma and fundamental fractal properties of heart rate are not differ in patients with BA in comparison to healthy men.
