Abstract

In the paper we introduce a technique based on the utilization of a component-based software GeoToolKit which enables a development such active spatial repositories and report on our experience in the development of applications using different levels of data exchange. GeoToolKit is a component-based software for the development of 3D/4D geo-scientific applications, developed within the collaborative research center SFB350 at the University of Bonn. GeoToolKit's main goal is to facilitate the design and implementation of special-purpose 3D/4D geo-scientific software for applications which are not covered by general-purpose GISs. It provides for application developers a set of geo-oriented software building blocks involving ODBMS-based spatial data maintenance, visualization, graphical interfaces and communication. Due to correlated interfaces even a non-experienced developer is able to assemble these blocks into a ready-to-use application.
